Staying Focused

Staying Focused

Staying focused on my Goals I think, is a challenging task for me to do. I have a set of Goals in life. At some point in my life I had written down the list of things that I would love to do on a long run, things that will make me happy and satisfied, things that will enable me to enjoy each day with contentment. I am also aware that happiness is not something that I will achieve once I reach my destination, but happiness is found in the journey.

Even though I try my best to pursue my goals planned for the next day, very often I find myself lost in the present; like lost in my daily office work, lost with those silly problems of relating with people, lost in useless thoughts. At the end of each day I wonder whether I am doing the right things and moving in the right direction.

As I write this post, once again I am trying to stay focused on my goals and do the right things daily, much like the story of ‘King Robert the Bruce and the spider’ who after being defeated at a battle escapes and hides in a cave. After hiding in the cave for three months, Bruce was at the lowest point of his life. He thought about leaving the country and never coming back. While waiting, he watched a spider building a web in the cave’s entrance. The spider fell down time after time, but finally he succeeded with his web. So Bruce decided also to go into battle again and told his men: “If at first you don’t succeed, try try and try again”.

Was reading few articles on staying focused and found some interesting tips, thought of sharing with you.

  1. Have a well defined goal: One thing that has always kept me glued is that I exactly know what my goals are, I have written it down in my dairy and keep reading it often. I think having goals which are well defined is the key, it helps.
  2. Break the goal in small actionable tasks: If you have a broad high level goals, break it into small actionable tasks and start working on it.
  3. Prioritize Daily: Decide on what needs to be done first and work towards it.
  4. Plan daily: Plan how much time you need to spend on each task daily.
  5. Track your progress: Keep a record of your progress.
  6. Remove distractions: Try and stay away from things/people that distract you.
  7. Take help from family and friends: Sometime to achieve higher goals you need to take help from family and friends.
  8. Always be positive:  Even after doing all the right things we might end up lost again, don’t be disheartened, Be positive. Don’t give up hope.

Your writing style is quite a good role model for me – I have recently started my own blog and I am really struggling to write articles!

I like the whole idea of making lists, setting goals, getting them done and crossing them off your list… Makes you feel like you’ve achieved stuff..
